A History Of
Beginning in 1983, student Henry Chu began a tradition that has become a UCSD
tradition. That fateful day the festival was rained out. Alas, the traditon had begun. Over the
years, the festival has gone through many changes, but has always had great involvement
and support from the student population. The venue has changed from its the old Student
Center to Sun God Lawn to Mile High Field (pre-dating RIMAC) to the Price Center to
Warren Mall. The addition of an evening concert in 1985 added a whole new dimension to
the daytime festival. That year Los Lobos performed. Since then the evening concert has
entertained the likes of The Call (1990), The Untouchables (1991), Blur (1992), Blues Traveler
and Gin Blossoms (1993), They Might Be Giants and No Doubt (1994), The Pharcyde and
311 (1995), and Rocket from the Crypt and Souls of Mischief (1996).

Now, in this, its 15th year, the Sun God Festival will hold its daytime festivities at
Sun God Lawn and Price Center Plaza, while the evening concert will be held at the RIMAC
Athletic Field hosting De La Soul, Save Ferris, and Clyde's Ride.
