Textbook: Avery Catlin, True Basic Press. Let's Program It ... in True Basic 1996. Available in bookstore.

Course Description: Introductory course for non-engineering majors. Use of computers in solving problems; applications from life science, physical science, and engineering. Students run existing computer programs and complete some programming in BASIC. Detailed information is given in the course webpage (http://sdcc3.ucsd.edu/~ir118). No final, no labs week of Sept. 27. Homework and projects are due the week after they are assigned.

Grading: Quizzes given during lectures and labs count 5% each (total 50%: top 8 Qs plus top 2 LQs). Bring green scantron forms #882-ES to lectures and labs. Homework sets are due weekly as clearly labeled files (e. g.: A01-HW1 Doe, Jane) before the beginning of section the week after assignment, count 4% each (total 20%: top 5). Two projects count 15% each (total: 30%).  Discussion between students of all class work is permitted and encouraged but presentation of copied work as original is forbidden.
