Subject: MAE 5 True Basic Program

Dear Professor Gibson,
My name is Garrett Work and I am in your MAE 5 lecture at eight in
the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I don't know if you remember
me, but I introduced myself at the end of Thursdays lecture this
week. I had brought up to you a list of several different True Basic
versions that I had found, and I was wondering which would be the
most ideal version for this class. You told me that the Bronze
version should be sufficient, and you wanted me to let you know if it
actually worked because you said that many have been having trouble
with it working. I am pretty sure that any computer connected to the
UCSD network should be able to access this program. Anyone
off-campus may have trouble. Below I will describe how I got to the
link.
First I clicked on the third hyperlink on your course website for
this quarter's MAE 5 class. The hyperlink is entitled "True BASIC"
and brings you to an old email. Within the email there is a web
address that I copied and pasted into the server
(ftp://acsftp.ucsd.edu). This should bring up a page with a list of
different programs to choose from. Sixth from the bottom, there is a
directory for True BASIC. After clicking on that, I chose the PC
directory. Then, I clicked on the Win_Bronze_5.41a.zip and saved
this zip file to my computer. After the download finished I
navigated to path name I saved the zipped folder to. After unzipping
the folder, there should be a file called SETUP.EXE within the
folder. I clicked on that, went through the installation process and
everything seems to be working fine.
Sorry if this email seems a little over the top, but I didn't know
exactly what you wanted to know. I just thought that I should email
you as soon as a could since you won't be here next class, and you
may be receiving a bunch of emails from students asking which version
to download and how to find it. I hope this helps! See you in class
soon. Please email me back if you need anything else.
Sincerely,
Garrett Work
